You definitely bought more than you meant to. A drink for the walk home. A peach wrapped in paper. Some candies that were tucked near the register, bright and unnecessary and perfect. Your brows furrow as you make your way back home. You were sinking in a black hole of stress, with projects to complete left and right. Back inside, shoes kicked off, windows open, you let yourself have a small pause. A reward for making it through half of the errands of today. You lean against your kitchen counter, one hand shuffling through the candies you purchased while the other’s fingers are coated in juice from the peach you scoffed down. And then it happened. You laughed. Out loud. Not at anything in particular, really. More so at the fact that the day hadn’t broken you at the unserious state that you’re in. The worries of the day didn’t exactly disappear either. The to-do list still left unfinished, and tomorrow still existed, but the day eased a little. It was as if this short ten minute break you took gave you a bit more energy. Your joy did not come at a grand moment, with things being perfect and tasks being completed. It arrived disguised as an ordinary snack break you almost skipped. And somehow, that was enough.
